Why schools require an application fee?
Administrative work:
The school needs to review your documents, check your eligibility, and prepare official admission letters. This requires staff time and resources.
Verification costs:
In many cases the fee helps cover external checks, such as verifying your transcripts, confirming your English test results (TOEFL/IELTS), or issuing visa-related documents (like the I-20 form for an F-1 student visa).
Commitment filter:
The fee shows the school that you’re a serious applicant. It helps them focus on students who are truly motivated, instead of those who send out dozens of random applications.
One-time payment:
Usually, this fee is paid only once when you first apply to a school. If you continue your studies or transfer within the same institution later, you won’t need to pay it again.
